At Pather Sathi this August, three AquaTerra volunteers set up Art Alley, an afternoon where 45 children got their hands on paint, paper, and colour with no rules attached. The room quickly filled with chatter as kids compared their work and asked volunteers for tips on shading and mixing shades.
For many of the children, art class is a rare chance to make something just for the joy of it, and that showed in how reluctant they were to stop when time ran out. Volunteers moved table to table, offering encouragement rather than correction.
By the close of the session, the walls were lined with drawings each child was proud to call their own.
