At Mother's Nest this July, three AquaTerra volunteers guided 30 children through building their own terrariums — tiny worlds of soil, plants, water, and air sealed inside a glass container. For most of the kids, it was their first time seeing an ecosystem take shape with their own hands.
The session moved slowly and deliberately, with volunteers explaining each layer as the children added it, turning a craft activity into a lesson on how nature sustains itself in miniature. Watching the children carefully arrange their plants showed just how much patience and pride the task drew out of them.
Each child left with a living creation to look after, a small ongoing reminder of the afternoon spent learning at Mother's Nest.
