I understood the meaning of words, Or at least that's what I thought. That sorry meant regret, Love meant forever, And I'm fine wasn't a lie. But growing up Added a question mark to each definition. The more I tried understanding, The more I misunderstood. Always - signifying infinite, Soon became a synonym for "only for a while". "All ways, always" a web of words, Ironically never made its way back. Sorry now feels like a favour, With no intentions to change, Offered like a habit, Not from the heart. Trust is no longer blind. It isn't just a pinky promise anymore, It comes with betrayal, A bruise that lasts a lifetime. So no, I don't understand words, And neither do you. For it's the people who define words, And not the dictionary.
