Almost But Not Quite

She was the only single one in the group. So was he. Every time the group went out, everyone walked with their special ones. They walked together too, because they had "no other options left." At least, that's what they claimed. The whole school thought they were dating. His friends from his previous school knew her, so did her friends from her hometown.

The crowd surged and pushed, but his arms found their way around her, making sure she brushed against no one but him.

Her mother trusted her with him. She knew he was the only one she'd listen to. When she refused to eat even from the hands of the woman who gave birth to her, her mother would seek help from him. And guess what? It worked every time.

The teachers at school loved seeing them together. The students said their chemistry was unmatched, but chemistry was her weakest subject and he was a commerce student.

She wouldn't think even once before she opened her mouth, but when it came to him, she would revise her dialogues. She sent everyone every reel on her feed, but she would take a minute and twenty seconds thinking about what he would think if she sent it to him. She didn't feel nervous even while addressing a crowd of a thousand people, but when it was him, her stomach felt funny.

He was loud and confident all the time, but when he was around her, he became quiet. He had that quiet pride, the kind that never let him apologise to anyone, yet with her, ego never stood a chance. One look from her, and he'd be doing squats with his ears in his hands. He never gifted anything to his friends but spent half his pocket money on buying her a nicely wrapped rose for her birthday. He proudly boasted about being her dance partner after telling everyone he didn't know how to dance. He didn't take orders or scoldings from anyone, unless it was her.

He was scared of dogs, but hers were exceptions. He wasn't fond of dancing but auditioned for the dance team just so he could spend time with her. She had no clue about football but watched it just so she could talk to him about it. She hated the mud but stood in it just to watch him play. He hated getting pictures but always clicked them with her. He never posted except for when it was her. She never shared her food with anyone, but him. The first time she shared a spoon and an ice cream was with him.
